Tautavel is a beautiful village in the north-east of the Pyrénées-Orientales, a little out of the way, at the bottom of a narrow valley. Yet it is world-famous for being the place where the oldest European in history was found.

As a result, there is a large archaeological museum on site, as well as a cave, and at the very top, a castle and the Torre del Far, "the sentinel of Roussillon". Stroll through the narrow streets and relax in the shade of the plane trees.

Further on, don't miss a visit to the narrow Gorges de Gouleyrous, impressive for the grey colour of the rocks and their rounded shapes, carved out by the current.
