## Emplacement
City of art and history, Nîmes is famous for its ancient heritage and its southern atmosphere particularly festive. Remarkably preserved, the Roman amphitheatre from the end of the 1st century and the beginning of the 2nd century, with a length of 133 meters and a width of 101 meters, can accommodate up to 24,000 spectators! Open to visitors, these vast arenas regularly host shows, including the famous bullfights and Camargue bull races.

Another flagship monument of the city of Nîmes, the Maison Carrée, a superb Roman temple from the end of the 1st century, with columns surmounted by Corinthian capitals. In front of the Maison Carrée stands the Carré d'Art, a modern building that houses a museum of contemporary art. The city of Nîmes also has a museum of fine arts in which French and foreign paintings from the 14th to the 19th century are exhibited.

In addition to these multiple attractions, the must-see is the Jardin de la Fontaine, a wonderful romantic park, classified as a Remarkable Garden, built in the 18th century around the source of Nemausus and the ancient remains of the Temple of Diane and the Magne Tower. Very relaxing, the walk in these places reveals a French garden in the lower part, and a succession of Mediterranean plants, pines and cedars in the upper part. From the Magne tower, at the top of Mount Cavalier, the view over the city’s rooftops is superb!

Before leaving the capital of the Gard, do not miss a walk in the picturesque alleys of the old town and have a drink on one of the pretty squares, which are for example the market place, the place aux Herbes or the place de l'Horloge.

As for events, the Feria de Pentecostal in May is a great five-day festive event during which the bull is king. In addition to its bullfights, the Feria de Nîmes is also an opportunity to party with music, to the rhythm of bands, in the streets of the city center.
